Description
Push-and-pull control for suspended pipe in the Americas
The Drill Pipe Handling Tool gives rig-floor, catwalk and deck crews a dedicated contact point for positioning suspended drill pipe up to 5⅞ inches. Its two opposed U-shaped attachments support a quick change between push and pull functions while tag lines address load rotation. The same design is also listed for bulk hoses, BOP service lines and selected drilling or fishing tools. CK Loosbrock USA can support configuration selection and documentation across the Americas.
Best suited for
- Suspended drill pipe up to the manufacturer’s stated 5⅞-inch limit.
- Vertical or horizontal positioning and landing on the rig floor or catwalk.
- Bulk hoses and BOP service lines reviewed for the head opening and handling plan.
- Selected drilling and fishing tools requiring controlled push-and-pull contact.
- Operations that already use tag lines and need an additional positioning tool.
Choosing length and hand-grip style
The specification sheet lists enclosed handles at 1200 and 1500 mm, plus an open-handle model at 1500 mm. Choose length according to the planned operator position, available clearance and engagement point at approximately waist level. Select an enclosed or open grip through the site’s task review, considering gloves, access and retention requirements. Custom lengths are described as available on request. Confirm the product code and current configuration before ordering.

Application guidance
Stabilize the suspended load with tag lines from the position defined in the lift plan before engaging the tool. Present the U-shaped attachment face-on to the pipe or hose, seat it in the correct side for the required push or pull function and maintain two-hand control. Coordinate movement with the banksman, driller or lifting-equipment operator. Use the tool for final positioning and landing only within the approved procedure. It complements tag lines and does not replace them.
Safety and use limitations
- Wear the personal protective equipment required by the site procedure.
- Engage drill pipe and hoses only when positioned at approximately waist level.
- Remain alert to swinging loads and use tag lines from a safe position first.
- Never enter the suspended-load path or stand beneath a load.
- Confirm that the selected head opening and grommets suit the component.
- Keep clear communication with the person controlling the lifting equipment.
- Do not use the tool for prying or any other leveraging activity.
- Inspect the head, staff, grip and grommets before each use.
