Description

Secure push-and-pull contact for large suspended pipe

The Pro Pipe Gripper Tool combines a shaped head with adjustable quick-release webbing to engage suspended pipe and hoses from 4 to 13 inches in diameter. It supports controlled push-and-pull positioning of drill pipe, BHA components, casing joints and other large tubulars while the primary lifting system carries the load. OHS USA supplies manufacturer-backed selection support for rig floors, catwalks, workshops and field operations across the Americas.

Applications across drilling and maintenance

  • Positioning large drill pipe, BHA components, casing joints and pup joints.
  • Handling drilling tools, fishing tools and supported hose diameters.
  • Slickline and workover activities involving suspended tubular equipment.
  • Workshop and manufacturing tasks such as positioning components near machines or test bays.
  • Operations that already use tag lines and need controlled contact during landing.

Selecting the correct length and grip

Confirm the outside diameter, working space and preferred grip before selecting a code. Enclosed-handle versions are listed in 850, 1200 and 1500 mm lengths. The open-handle model is listed at 1500 mm. The shorter version is suited to space-restricted workshop tasks, while longer models increase reach on rig floors or catwalks. Custom lengths are described as available on request. For pipe up to 10 inches without the adjustable gripper webbing, compare the 10-inch PRO Pipe Handling Tool.

  • Single head opening for pipe and hoses from 4 to 13 inches.
  • Quick-release webbing described as 2000 kg rated with a 600 kg cam buckle.
  • Medium-density polyethylene head and 30 mm marine-grade aluminium staff.
  • Tag-line retrieval feature, hand protector and replaceable rubber grommets.

The webbing and buckle figures describe components. They are not permission to lift a load with this positioning tool.

Engagement and positioning guidance

Stabilize the supported load with tag lines before approaching it. Engage only when the pipe or hose is stationary. Adjust the webbing through the cam buckle for the selected diameter, reconnect the quick-release hook and maintain tension as directed by the manufacturer. Keep two hands on the tool, use a face-on connection and preserve an escape path. Two personnel are required by the manufacturer guidance when handling larger pipe or casing joints.

Safety and use limitations

  • Never stand under a suspended load or leave the tool attached above a work area.
  • Do not use the Pro Pipe Gripper Tool for leveraging.
  • Use tag lines to control swinging loads before tool engagement.
  • Maintain clear communication with the banksman and lifting-equipment operator.
  • Remove the tool only after the pipe is positioned and lift-wire tension is removed.
  • Inspect the head, webbing, buckle, hook, staff and grips before use.

Which version is intended for restricted spaces?

The 850 mm enclosed-handle version provides the shortest standard configuration for workshop or other space-restricted applications.

Does the tool replace tag lines?

No. Manufacturer guidance says it complements tag lines during movement and landing.

Can it remain connected while the load is suspended?

The operator must maintain contact, and the tool must not be left connected to a suspended load above a work area.
