Description

Purpose-built manual support for choke valves

The Lift Assist Choke Valve Sling is the valve-specific member of the Offshore Handling Systems Lift Assist range. Its narrower polyester webbing is intended to help personnel manually handle chicksan and BOP choke valves during controlled assembly and movement. OHS USA can help Americas customers distinguish this model from the general-purpose Single and Double Handle products and obtain the current Safe Use Instruction Sheet.

Best suited for

  • Manual movement of chicksan valves within the published working load limit.
  • Manual handling of BOP choke valves during an approved assembly procedure.
  • Tasks where controlled support can help keep hands away from direct contact areas.
  • Work methods intended to reduce bending and improve the handling position.
  • Valve assembly activities where protecting threads and components is part of the plan.

Selecting the valve sling

Confirm the exact valve type, weight, geometry and safe strap position before ordering. The Choke Valve Sling uses 25 mm simplex polyester webbing and carries a lower working load limit than the other Lift Assist models. It should be selected because its configuration fits the valve task, not simply because the item is compact. For general components, review the Lift Assist Single Handle. For tubulars or two-hand control, compare the Lift Assist Double Handle.

Published ratings apply to the product under the manufacturer instructions. They do not define whether a particular valve or handling method is acceptable at a specific worksite.

Using the sling in a controlled process

Before moving the valve, establish its weight, center of gravity, destination and acceptable contact surfaces. Position the webbing only as described in the current instructions and keep threads, sealing faces and controls protected. Maintain a stable posture and use agreed communication whenever another person participates. Stop if the valve cannot be controlled through the full manual movement.

Safety and use limitations

  • This is a manual-handling aid only.
  • Never attach it to mechanical lifting equipment or include it in a rigging arrangement.
  • Do not exceed the manufacturer 50 kg working load limit.
  • Inspect the webbing, stitching and handle before each task.
  • Keep polyester webbing away from sharp valve edges, damaging heat and incompatible contaminants.
  • Follow the current Safe Use Instruction Sheet, site risk assessment and personal protective equipment requirements.

Frequently asked questions

Which valves does the manufacturer identify?

The official specification names chicksan valves and BOP choke valves.

What is the working load limit?

The manufacturer lists a 50 kg working load limit and a 500 kg minimum breaking load for OHS-C100.

Can this sling be attached to a hoist?

No. Despite its name, it is not a rigging sling. It is restricted to manual handling and must not be used with mechanical lifting equipment.

Does it protect valve threads automatically?

Controlled manual handling can help reduce accidental contact, but the task plan must still protect threads and verify the strap position.

What should be supplied with a quotation request?

Provide valve type, manufacturer, weight, dimensions, intended handling step, quantity, site location and documentation needs.
