Description

Arc-head control for larger tubulars in the Americas

The Drill Pipe Casing Tool is a long-handled positioning aid for larger drill pipe, casing, conductor and bundles of drill pipe. Its arc-shaped head provides a broad pushing contact, while the integrated tag-line retrieval hook adds a pull function. The official specification describes use with larger tubulars up to 12 inches on rig floors, catwalks and V-door areas. CK Loosbrock USA can support model selection, documentation and quotation requirements across the Americas.

Best suited for

  • Large drill pipe and casing joints up to the manufacturer-stated 12-inch limit.
  • Conductor and bundles of drill pipe reviewed within the handling plan.
  • Rig-floor, catwalk and V-door positioning tasks.
  • Selected fishing tools suited to the arc-head contact geometry.
  • Operations using tag lines to stabilize a suspended load before tool engagement.

Choosing length and handle configuration

The official specification sheet lists 1200 and 1500 mm enclosed-handle models and a 1500 mm open-handle model. Select the configuration according to the pipe or bundle geometry, desired engagement point, work-area clearance and the operator position defined by the lift plan. An open grip should not be assumed interchangeable with an enclosed grip for every task. Custom lengths are described as available on request, subject to manufacturer confirmation.

Application guidance

Stabilize the suspended tubular or bundle with tag lines before approaching with the Casing Tool. Engage the arc-shaped head face-on at approximately waist level and use it for the controlled push function defined in the handling plan. Use the tag-line hook only for the retrieval or pull function described by the manufacturer. Maintain communication with the banksman and lifting-equipment operator, and remove the tool only when the load has reached the planned position and the procedure permits.

Safety and use limitations

  • Wear the personal protective equipment required for the work area and task.
  • Only engage casing or drill-pipe bundles when positioned at approximately waist level.
  • Stabilize swinging loads with tag lines from a safe position before engaging the tool.
  • Never stand beneath a suspended load or enter its travel path.
  • Check that bundle arrangement and individual tubulars are controlled by the approved lift plan.
  • Engage the arc head face-on and keep both hands in the designated grip area.
  • Do not use the tool for prying or leveraging activities.
  • Inspect the head, hook, staff, grip and grommets before use.
