Description
Controlled grating removal from a standing position
The Grating Lifter is a 1200 mm handling tool intended to assist personnel removing floor grating for machinery-space maintenance and inspection. Its enclosed handle, aluminium staff and shaped steel head allow engagement while the operator remains standing, subject to the site manual-handling assessment. OHS USA can help Americas facilities distinguish the current T Head and V Head codes and confirm compatibility with the installed grating.
Suitable grating applications
- Steel and heavy-duty steel grating.
- Aluminium grating and stair treads.
- Safety grating and fiberglass grating.
- Access for routine inspection beneath removable machinery-space flooring.
- Controlled removal and vertical storage of compatible grating sections.
Selecting T Head or V Head
The current manufacturer page lists two configurations: OHSGLT-1200 with a T Head and OHSGLV-1200 with a V Head. Both are shown with an enclosed handle and 1200 mm length. Select only after checking the grating opening, bar profile, panel weight, access angle and intended engagement point. The official page explains T-section engagement but gives limited detail about V Head compatibility, so obtain written confirmation for the actual grating design.

Application guidance
Survey the panel and confirm its weight can be managed under the site manual-handling procedure. Establish a clear storage position before lifting. Insert the approved head into a compatible opening, verify secure engagement and control the panel through the complete movement. Keep feet and hands clear of the panel edge and landing area. Store removed sections in a stable vertical position only where the site method permits it.
Safety and use limitations
- The public manufacturer page does not state a working load limit or mechanical-lifting rating.
- Do not treat the Grating Lifter as rigging equipment without written manufacturer confirmation.
- Verify head compatibility and panel weight before each task.
- Inspect the head, rubber strip, staff, hand protector and grip before use.
- Do not stand over an open floor area without the required barriers and fall controls.
- Follow the machinery-space access procedure, manual-handling assessment and personal protective equipment requirements.
Official documentation
No dedicated downloadable Grating Lifter specification sheet was linked from the public manufacturer page during this review. Request the latest safe-use information for the selected head before deployment.
